Many Cooks, One Kitchen

Corporations are composed of many individuals from different backgrounds, each with their own unique identity. They hold positions at all levels of the organization, bringing to their work a unique set of skills and perspectives. This diversity is good – it makes a corporation strong and adaptable – but diversity also poses a risk to the integrity of a corporation. The risk is that of the corporation being pulled apart if its employees all pull in different directions.

Meet Mr. Corporation

When consumers deal with a corporation, they don't think of it as a diverse mosaic of workers; they think of it as more of a person and will make character judgements based on their experience with it. If they have an unpleasant experience with one of its employees, products, or services, they are quick to point to systemic problems with the corporation as a whole. If their experience with the corporation is hit-and-miss, they might proclaim the entire corporation to be confused, or schizophrenic. If two different employees from the same corporation tell them completely different things, they will surely think: "This corporation is disorganized."

A Guiding Light

We can help! If everyone in your organization can be made to pull in the same direction, then you're going to go places and accomplish great things. The biggest challenge is to discover which direction to pull in, and to make sure that everyone in the organization knows what they need to do to get there. A solid Brand Strategy acts as a beacon, leading the way to this goal.
